What To Expect at Redeemer
We are thankful you are considering attending Redeemer. Our services are generally 90 to 100 minutes long and include worship through corporate singing, prayer, hearing God’s Word through Biblical teaching, and celebrating communion.
Redeemer is located at the crossroads of I-405 and I-90 at 15005 SE 38th St.
We have two services starting at 9 and 11 am. Below, you will find answers to common visitor questions.
What is a service like?
At Redeemer, our service liturgy follows the gospel narrative. Therefore, the elements of our worship progress through Creation, Fall, Redemption, and New Creation. The goal of our liturgy is to sing the Word with conviction and confidence as we remember the gospel throughout the service and, therefore, be formed as gospel people.
The service begins with a scriptural call to worship. Following this, we sing a couple of songs before the pastoral prayer. After this prayer, we have a time of passing the peace in which we greet one another. At this time, the kids are dismissed from the kids’ ministry. There will be a short time for announcements, followed by the prayer of illumination and then the Scripture reading. Then, we hear the Word preached and communion celebrated.
At Redeemer, we believe communion is for anyone who has put their trust and faith in Jesus for forgiveness and salvation. Most parents pick their children up from kids’ ministry before or just after communion. Our service closes with three worship songs and a benediction.
What is the teaching like?
We believe in the expositional and exegetical preaching of God’s word by those called and qualified to do so.
“Expositional” meaning that we largely preach through books of the bible instead of topics.
“Exegetical” meaning that the meaning interpretation of the text is “read out” of the text itself as opposed to Eisegesis which reads a preconceived interpretation into the text.
What do I do with my kids?
Kids of all ages are always welcome to stay with you in the service. If your kids are professing believers in Jesus and you want to retrieve them for Communion near the end of the service, you can do that right after the sermon is over.
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to our Student Ministry gatherings, held on Thursday nights at 6:30 pm at the church.
You can find more information on Kids and Students with these links:
Will I be asked to give or have to stand up and say anything?
No to both.
While we encourage members and regular attenders of Redeemer to give toward the continuation of the ministry, we never pass an offering plate. A giving box is located in the back of the worship space for anyone who wishes to give or you can give via our online giving, or by text.
We know that church can be a scary place if you’re not used to it, and we are completely fine with you sneaking in the back and checking us out before you get more involved!
What is the preaching like?
- Expositional preaching focuses on proclaiming the full counsel of God by working through the books of the Bible. From time to time, we have sermons that are topical, but those, too, will be expositional in nature.
- Exegetical preaching emphasizes deriving the meaning of the text from the text itself, submitting to the Spirit’s intent as revealed in the Word.
