2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

The Bible is clear, God delights in giving. As Christians, who are being progressively formed into the image of Christ, we should also delight in giving. Biblical giving is selfless and sacrificial. It is that which overflows from a heart responding to the generosity of the gospel.

We ought not think of giving as an obligation, but an opportunity. The gospel motivates us to give, confronting our sinful inclinations toward greed, control, comfort and convenience.

The stewardship of our finances is a great—and often ignored—area of our lives where we can faithfully proclaim the gospel. Generous, sacrificial, and cheerful giving frees us to live open-handedly with the gifts God gives us. We trust in Him and His provision instead of our own self-sufficiency.
